Hi all.
In this topick you can tell us if in your country artists cover English songs by changing the lyrics to the language of the country and what do you think. If the original was better than the cover or the other way round.
In Greece some English songs have been covered with Greek lyrics. The most recent example was when the Greek artist Alkistis Protopsalti did a cover of the Nickelback song how you remind me.
The melody is exactly the same but with Greek lyrics and a female voice instead of a male so this is also something different.
I personally like the original. The instruments in the Greek version are midi and it doesn't sound as good as Nickelback.
Also a few years ago another Greek artist Dionisis Savopoullos did a cover of the Bob Dylan song the wicked messenger.
This one was more creative cover because Savopoullos didn't use exactly the same melody but he changed it a bit. So it was more difficult to recognise that the song was a cover. I like both versions of the songs.
Oh yes this pop song called kiss kiss was covered in a lot of languages as well. I think the original was Turkish, after that i heard a Greek cover and finally an English version as well but i don't like any of them.
I don't remember any more for now.
So what do you think of songs covered in other languages?

I remember the shakira song whenever wherever which was in English and Spanish. I think personally i prefear the English version. I think i heard the Spanish only once.
actually, shakira is culumbian. most of her covers are in culumbian

columbian is spanish just a bit dialectal however spanish speakers who are not actually from columbia can understand it perfectly. There was a german rock group I think it was die ärtzte who did here comes alex and hier Kommt Alex. The german one was better. Cristina Agulara also did some stuff in english and spanish, however I prefer the spanish versions as they sound more...poetic and gentle. Also, cypress Hill did an album called los éxitos grandes en español which covered their greatest hits in spanish. I also heard that the song, if I was a rich girl, was also covered from a french song of several years ago, then covered again from the opra, but can't substantiate that one.

I'm ashamed to admit it but I have overheard several times the song Karma Cameleon by Boy Jorge. Living out here amid the freaks there's no escaping such horrifying songs as this one, so that's a legitimate excuse to redeem me.
But the reason why I'm mentioning it is because lately on the Spanish radio stations a song entitled "El Cameleon" has been playing. I don't know the band's name but, boy, is it funny.
I don't know what the lyrics of Karma Cameleon are but I don't think the spanish version is based on the lyrics, only on the musical organization and that annoying part "Karma, Karma, Karma, Karma, Karma, Cameleon...". Yikes!
The spanish version bases its lyrics on a guy who can get out of any and every tight pickle. He can turn transparent when la migra is at the door. Oh yeah, he also turns red when a chick he digs named Rosa is nearby.
The spanish version has the same annoying part, except it says: "Cama, Cama, Cama, cama, cama, camaleon. Yo soy el camaleon." Which translated means: "Cameleon, I am, the cameleon."

It doesn't necesarily have to be English songs covered in other languages but also song from other countries covered by English artists. It would be interesting.
